Spring is the in air. New beginnings and new stories abound. My latest short (I’m told it’s technically a novelette, which is just gah!) Rock Solid went live today on Amazon and you can check out a sneak peek below!
Rock Solid is a cozy MM adventure/rescue romance set in 1986 West Virginia. It follows a park ranger named Charlie who nurses a massive crush on Ian, a climber who shows up every spring around Easter. When Ian doesn’t return from a trip into the park, Charlie’s anxious brain sends him on a one-man rescue mission that lands him right in the lap of his crush, who is in desperate need of rescuing!
"As an adult, his relationship with the church was contentious, and on his best days he considered himself agnostic. But he was absolutely ready to join Ian’s flock. If he could work up the courage to speak to the man." - Rock Solid
Like Charlie, I started rock climbing about a year ago. Unlike Charlie, I'd wanted to climb for years (and maybe a little like Charlie, I couldn't figure out how to get started on the road to what I wanted). Now it's the activity I spend the most time on, besides reading and writing. I wanted to write a climbing story as a way to honor my new passion, but when Charlie stepped onto the page begging for his happy ending, his story also quickly turned into a place to process my frustration and grief over what's happening politically in this moment, with the resurgence of aggressive transphobia and with funding cuts to public services like park staff.
Please enjoy this cozy story of blatant (and perhaps fantastical) queer joy.
